Greetings, Fellow Reflexology Practitioner,

I’m Christopher Shirley, owner of the Pacific Institute of Reflexology— one of Canada’s most established and respected reflexology schools.

I’d like to share Five Ways to Have Your Clients Feel Instantly Comfortable With You.

These five simple, yet powerful practices can significantly enhance the relationships you build with each of your clients. Whether you are welcoming a new client or working with someone who has been with you for years, these small actions will make a big difference.

I encourage you to start applying them with your very next client. When clients feel truly seen, respected, and valued, they not only return but they are also far more likely to recommend you to their friends and family.

After all, when we have a truly wonderful experience, we naturally want to share it with those we care about.

Five Ways to Have Your Clients Feel Instantly Comfortable With You.

Creating a welcoming and supportive environment is key to building trust with your clients. These five simple yet powerful practices will help your clients feel valued, safe, and eager to return.

1. Ground Yourself and Your Treatment Space

Before your client arrives, take a moment to ground yourself and your treatment room. This helps bring both into the present moment, allowing you to release any lingering personal concerns or negative energy that could distract you from being fully present.

2. Clear Your Space with a Brief Meditation

A short visualization can help clear your energy and refresh your space, making it more inviting for your client. Picture any stagnant or disruptive energy dissolving, leaving you and your treatment room feeling light, energized, and ready to receive your client with openness and clarity.

3. Center Yourself

Bring your awareness back into your body and your space. It is easy to be caught up in past events or future tasks, but by centering yourself, you enhance your presence and become more available for your client. With practice, you will be able to do this quickly—anywhere, anytime.

4. Greet Your Client with Genuine Interest

When your client arrives, welcome them warmly.

For a new client, show curiosity about their background. Enquire about their daily occupation, how they spend their day, and, what it is that they enjoy about their work.

Explain what they can expect from their session and smoothly transition into your intake interview.

For a returning client, ask how they experienced their last reflexology session. Were there any noticeable effects? How did it impact their sleep? Follow up by asking how life has been treating them since and whether they have any new aches, pains, or concerns.

A heartfelt greeting sets the tone for a trusting and comfortable session.

5. Listen with Full Attention and Curiosity

As your client shares, listen with genuine interest. Your presence and curiosity communicate care and respect, making them feel truly heard. Maintaining this level of attentiveness throughout the session deepens trust and strengthens the healing relationship.

By incorporating these five simple practices into your sessions, you will create a welcoming and supportive space where clients feel valued, safe, and eager to return.

Interestingly, you may also find that your own day flows more smoothly and that you end it feeling more fulfilled and connected to your work.

As simple as these five practices might seem, successfully applying them requires development of skills—skills that energy workers cultivate and skills that counseling psychologists develop.

The truth is, having a big heart and good intentions is not always enough. If a client senses that you’re not fully in tune with them, or that you don’t truly understand them, they may shut down—or even decide not to return.
